What time is it? IT’S ROBOT TIME!
So I had a bunch of extra parts laying around and decided to do a 3D Printed family robot building class with some friends for giggles. These are the same as the xMatters robot in one of my above posts, except for the programming. These ones walk around until the ultrasonic range finder (the eyes) detects an obstacle, then they stop, back up, and turn around.
The Setup:

The shaky start:
Ok, so I limited the group to my less nerdy friends to show them how cool robots were: “OK, so everyone have your jumper wires? So connect the servo motors to the motherboard using the wiring diagram in front of you. Then solder your power supply into the breadboard to VCC and Ground”. At that point we all realized that this was probably going to take more than an hour.

Some were naturals:

Some were not:

But one by one, they started getting done:

And so begins the robot army:
(this picture is much scarier if you’re a smurf)

So most of them got done, but a few had to stay and see the robot doctor and get picked up later, I was so busy I never got a group shot of everyone with their robots. But overall it went awesome, everyone had a lot of fun (or at least they said they did), and most importantly, every kid came away with a robot.
Some pics the parents sent me later:

And of course, some robot on robot action:
